"What is happening to Yoga in America?"
Yoga beyond Fitness introduces the world of contemporary American yoga to those just discovering it and to those having practiced for a while who feel something is amiss and that there is a deeper meaning readily accessible but not directly evident. My book serves as both a sober wake-up call about how Yoga is being transformed and a hopeful, heartfelt, non-theistic tribute to its higher aspirations. As Yoga changes, its story is told through the experiences of those who practice and have been transformed by it, including my own. In the final analysis, American Yoga deserves warm appreciation but also serious pause for reflection.
I hope you enjoy reading Yoga beyond Fitness as much as I did writing it.

The feedback that I've received on Yoga beyond Fitness has been overwhelmingly positive. These comments may give you some idea of what Yoga beyond Fitness has to offer:
Dr. Kelly McGonigal, Editor-in-Chief, International Journal of Yoga Therapists, says of Yoga beyond Fitness:
“One of yoga's core principles is self-reflection. Yoga beyond Fitness gives the yoga
community an opportunity to reflect on where we came from, who we are and how to
return to the essence of a yoga as a spritual practice. It is a 'must read' for anyone
who wants to understand Yoga in the United States, and anyone who cares about the
future of Yoga in the West."
Richard Faulds, J.D., Chair of Kripalu Center’s Board of Trustees and Author of Kripalu Yoga writes:
“If you want Yoga to be more than a fad, if you see it as part of the solution to the
problems we face as a species and planet, if you want to go deeper yourself, you'll
enjoy this book.”
Sharon Steffensen, Editor, YOGA Chicago Magazine, describes Yoga beyond Fitness this way:
“An inspiration and a guide to all who recognize yoga as a holistic lifestyle, spiritual
discipline, and means for transformation.”
